TÜV SÜD supports development and expansion of Korea’s nuclear energy sector with integration of KOCEN into TÜV SÜD Group
Singapore/Seoul – TÜV SÜD, a globally recognised quality and safety testing, certification, consulting and training organization, has recently acquired KOCEN Consulting & Services.KOCEN is a leading engineering service provider for the nuclear energy sector. With this move, TÜV SÜD has strengthened its capabilities to support the development and expansion of the Korean nuclear energy industry to overseas markets such as China, India, Middle East and Europe, leveraging on the combined expertise, experience and global network of the two entities. This latest development is part of TÜV SÜD’s strategic intent to intensify its presence in the nuclear energy sector, following the acquisition of the former GNEC in October 2009.

(KEPCO E&C), Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) as well as various manufacturers and service providers in the energy sector."
According to the World Nuclear Association, Asia is the main region in the world where electricity generating capacity, specifically nuclear power, is growing significantly. Much of the growth in the nuclear power sector is expected in China, Japan, Korea and India. In particular, China and India plan to build 35 and 20 nuclear power plants respectively, and Korea intends to increase capacity from 20 to 35 power plants by 2030. Apart from domestic development plans, Korea, one of the innovative leaders in the field of clean energy technologies, intends to become one of world’s top suppliers of nuclear power plants and components. "Korea has set an ambitious plan to grow and expand its nuclear energy industry, with a goal of exporting 80 nuclear reactors by the end of 2030. I firmly believe that, with this strategic move, TÜV SÜD will be able to help Korea achieve this target", explains Mr Palit. |
